Obesity is a common condition is cats and dogs. It not only increases the risks of certain diseases (e.g. diabetes and heart disease), but it will significantly worsen the impact of others (e.g.arthritis), and leads to a reduced lifespan.
The basic principle of weight loss is simple. If you take in less calories than you use, you will lose weight. Unfortunately life is not always this simple and it can sometimes be difficult to dramatically reduce the amount of food your pet eats (e.g. with scavengers), or to increase their exercise (e.g. if they have arthritis).
Our team of vets and nurses are able to devise a personal plan for your pet. We use body condition score (BCS) along with weight to accurately assess what your pet’s ideal weight should be.
